Backbone Fibre Services / Fibre Splicing / Business Fibre
What is Backbone Fibre Services? In any large network you have multiple switches and sometimes different distribution points in different places or separate departments. The old way of doing this was to connect the switches with a network cable (Copper). Now you can get speeds up to 10Gbps if you connect the switches with fibre.
The benefits of a fire backbone is the speeds, reliability, less data loss compared to copper, less interference compared to copper. You can also run for distances up to 500m compared to the 100m limited with copper.
For this to work you must make sure you have fibre ready switches that has SFP ports for the fibre modules. You can also convert the fibre back to copper if your switches does not support SFP with a fibre to Ethernet converter (The speeds will be limited to 1Gbps).
